Welcome to Pittsburgh Model Trains .com
Pittsburgh Model Trains is part of the new "Our Model Trains" network, which in turn is part of a larger "Pittsburgh Hobbies" network, though everyone is invited.
Your ratings and reviews, comments and suggestions on sites listed here are *VERY* much appreciated, and encouraged! We will be doing our best to rate and review sites, but a much larger input is desired. Not everyone has the same views on every site, or aspect of the sites. Diversity.

Pittsburgh Model Trains.com will be about model railroads in the Pittsburgh area. Where buy supplies, where to find friends and clubs, and hopefully a place to share ideas bring new people into the hobby. We are planning to increase the line of materials we carry, primarily for "kit bashing" and building your layouts. This includes miniature scale lumber, plastic and metal. We'll also stock various modular building pieces, and detailing items like flocking, miniature gravel, and scenicing items. We are not going to stock rolling stock, at least not at first. We hope to become a Walthers dealer, so we can order anything you might need, even if we do not stock it normally.
Pittsburgh needs a really good neighborhood hobby shop, and Squirrel Hill seems to be a really good neighborhood to put one in. It's convenient on the bus lines from down town, and has good access from all points North, South, East and West. We are hoping that the miniature building materials and archetectural pieces will bring the students from the Universities when they are building their various projects. We love miniatures, and miniature scale building, so we'd love to become a primary resource for this in town.
We plan to focus a little on modular railroading. There is a *great* site on small to miniature layouts, also based here in Pittsburgh, Micro Layouts, so there is a lot of local interest, but little organization, or central resource spot for people trying to get started.
We hope we'll be able to add a little organization.
In addition, we are opening some other sites:
Rail Fan World will be a large site, devoted to all things trains, both full scale prototypes, and model miniatures. In general, it's not a commercial site listing, the exception being "gift" type items, and train memorabillia. Mostly, this site is planned to list, review, and organize the various Rail Fan sites (both on-line and off), into an easy to use, reliable and permanent resource for rail fans everywhere.
We'll be be actively adding and culling links over the next few months, getting things in shape. "Hobby Shop Finder" will be where all the general retail/wholesale hobby shops will be listed. We want to keep RailFanWorld.com as information rich as possible, without stores and shops popping up in the searches. Remember, your comments, reviews and ratings help us know what is good, bad, or just taking up space.
Two other niche sites are being set up, "Rail Fan Travel" and "Rail Fan Vacations."
These two travel sites are still in the pre-planning and pre-development stages. If you have suggestions, locations, travel packages, or anything else that fits with those two sites, please forward them.
